Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Olympiacos – UEFA Europa League preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction.

This Thursday, the 6th of August, 2020 the UEFA Europa League will continue when Wolves take on Olympiacos at the Molineux stadium for the 2nd leg of the round of 16.

Wolves come off a loss against Chelsea (2-0) which saw them finish the English Premiership at 7th - missing out on the opportunity to automatically qualify for next year’s Europa League competition.  That defeat to Chelsea marked their 3rd defeat in six games in all competitions; LLWDWL. Wolves qualified for this round of 16 after finishing as Group K’s runners-up. Coach Nuno Espirito Santos believes his side can win this tie and go all the way to claim the trophy – upsetting the likes of Inter Milan and Manchester United in the event they ever meet. The gaffer is expected to adopt a 3-4-3 formation with Neto and Jota on the right and left flanks respectively while Wolves’ prolific striker, Raul Jiménez will be at the center of the attack. The last time Wolves played in this competition was in the 1980/81 season and their best finish was as Europa League Runners-up in 1971/72 season. Nuno will be depending on Jimenez to do the damage against Olympiacos when they meet on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Olympiacos who finished as Champions in the Super League Championship Group are returning off the back of two victories; 1-3 against OFI Crete and 3-0 against AEK Athens. They have made 3 appearances in this competition this season and have scored 3 goals thanks to an average of 9.7 shots per game. Olympiacos has failed to progress beyond the round of 16 on four occasions; 1989/90, 2004/05, 2011/12, 2016/17 and last season they crashed out of the tournament after they lost 3-2 to Dynamo Kyiv in the round of 32. Coach Pedro Martins will likely use a 4-3-3 formation with the trio of D. Podence, Y.E-Arabi and G. Masouras leading the attack. Reports say first-choice goal keeper José Sá will be absent when both sides meet for the second leg of this round of 16 tie.

The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw and we anticipate a very exciting return leg but expect Wolves to emerge victorious.

2-1 is predicted at full-time.
