Wolfsburg vs Arminia Bielefeld – Bundesliga Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 5 encounter, with Wolfsburg taking on Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday the 25th of October, 2020, at VOLKSWAGEN ARENA.

Wolfsburg visited Gladbach last weekend, had ball possession at the start of the game, but failed to create real scoring chances. Things changed in the second half, they looked better, but ironically, it was Gladbach who took the lead in the 78th minute, from the penalty spot. Wolfsburg deserved a point, and they earned it, equalizing in the 85th minute (Wout Weghorst scored). Their current form reads; DDLDW. In four matches in the Bundesliga thus far, they have as many draws. They have scored just twice, and have conceded only two goals as well. Coach Oliver Glasner is expected to have Casteels, Baku, Lacroix, Brooks, Roussillon, Schlager, Guilavogui, Arnold, Steffen, Mehmedi and Weghorst in the starting lineup (4-3-2-1). Half a dozen players are either out for sure or available but not at their 100%, leaving Glasner with less choices than what he’d love to have.

Arminia started the season with two great results, a 1-1 draw in Frankfurt and a 1-0 home win over Koln, but what followed was two defeats, a… reminder that this is the Bundesliga… Last weekend they hosted Bayern Munich, went 0-3 down at halftime, and ended up losing 1-4, unable to control Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller, the two guys who scored and assisted each other for all of Bayern’s goals. Arminia’s current form reads; LDLWD. They are on four points from four games in the Bundesliga. Coach Uwe Neuhaus is expected to have Ortega, Brunner, Pieper, Van der Hoorn, Lucoqui, Prietl, Maier, Doan, Hartl, Cordova and Klos in the starting lineup (4-2-3-1). Japanese Ritsu Doan scored Arminia’s consolation goal last weekend, his first in the Bundesliga. The 22-year-old has already spent more than four years in Europe, playing three season at Groningen and one at PSV, from whom Arminia signed him recently.

Wolfsburg and Arminia have not faced each other in the Bundesliga since the 2008-09 season. Back then, Wolfsburg won twice, 4-1 at home and 0-3 as guests. They have played once since then, in the DFB Pokal, in April 2015. Wolfsburg won 0-4 (it was a knockout semifinal).

It feels like it’s time for Wolfsburg to celebrate their first victory of the season in the championship.

A 1-0 victory for the hosts is predicted at full-time.

Date: Sunday, 25th of October, 2020.

Kick-off time: 15:30 (GMT+2).
