Deportivo Alavés vs Real Madrid – La Liga Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 20 encounter, with Alavés taking on Real Madrid on Saturday the 23rd of January, 2021, at Estadio de Mendizorroza.

Alavés hosted Sevilla on Tuesday, went 0-1 down less than three minutes into the game, managed to react pretty quickly, equalized in the 12th minute, but conceded again before halftime, and that 1-2 did not change after the interval. Should be mentioned that Deportivo missed a golden opportunity to salvage a point in added time, they won a penalty, but… wasted it. Their current form reads; LLLWL. They are on 18 points from 19 matches, 17th in the table, right above the relegation line, with 18th-placed Elche just a single behind behind them. They have 4W, 6D and 9L, having lost three games in a row now. Goals, 17 scored, 25 conceded. Coach Abelardo played a 4-4-2 formation against Sevilla, with Edgar Méndez and Joselu up front. The former was the one who scored their goal, and the latter the one who crucially missed the penalty in the first minute of added time. Méndez is already on three goals this season in La Liga, from 17 matches. He had one goal from 16 games last season, returning to Alavés after two years at Cruz Azul (Mexico).

Real Madrid have not appeared in La Liga since January 9, when they drew 0-0 at Osasuna. Five days later they lost 1-2 to Athletic Bilbao in a Super Cup semifinal, and just to make things a tad more miserable for them, last Wednesday they lost to Alcoyano(!), 2-1, in a knockout Copa del Rey game, in extra-time, conceding the second goal while their little-known rivals were playing with 10 men(!!). No doubt that game will be remembered for years… Real Madrid’s current form reads; LLDWD. They are on 37 points from 18 matches, 2nd in the table, but the gap between them and leaders Atlético Madrid is seven points, and not just that, the Rojiblancos also have a game in hand. Real have 11W, 4D and 3L, having drawn in two of their last three games. Goals, 30 scored, 15 conceded. Coach Zinédine Zidane played a 4-3-3 formation against Osasuna two weeks ago, in their last La Liga game.

Back in November, Alavés beat Real Madrid 1-2 as guests(!).

A 1-2 victory for Real Madrid is predicted at full-time.

Date: Saturday, 23rd of January, 2021.

Venue: Estadio de Mendizorroza

Kick-off time: 21:00 (GMT+2).
