Montpellier vs Monaco – Ligue 1 Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 20 encounter, with Montpellier taking on Monaco on Friday the 15th of January, 2021, at Stade de la Mosson.

Montpellier hosted Nantes last weekend, opened the scoring just six minutes into the game, went to the dressing room at halftime leading 1-0, but got equalized in the 51st minute, and had to stay without a victory for yet another weekend, as that 1-1 did not change in the remainder of the match. Their current form reads; DLLDL. They are on 28 points from 19 games, 8th in the table. They have 8W, 4D and 7L, having earned just two points from their last five Ligue 1 matches. They are the only top-16 team without a single victory the last five game weeks. Goals, 31 scored, 32 conceded. Offensively they have been doing very well, but no other top-10 team has conceded as many goals as they have. Coach Michel Der Zakarian played a 5-3-2 formation against Nantes, with Delort and Laborde up front. It was Oyongo who scored their goal, his first not just this season, but in TWO seasons, as he finished the last one without finding the back of the net once.

The new year has started very well for Monaco, first they beat Lorient 2-5(!) away from home, and last weekend they made it “six points from two matches”, beating Angers as well, 3-0, as hosts. Their current form reads; WWDWL. They are on 33 points from 19 matches, 4th in the table. They have 10W, 3D and 6L, having earned 10 points from their last four games alone. Goals, 36 scored, 27 conceded. They have been scoring almost two goals per game, but it’s... striking that they alone have conceded more goals (27) than 2nd-placed PSG and 3rd-placed Lille COMBINED (25). Coach Niko Kovac played a 4-4-2 formation against Angers, with Ben Yedder and Volland up front. Maripán opened the scoring in the 40th minute, Volland gave Monaco a two-goal pillow in the 72nd, and Jovetić, having just come off the bench, added the cherry on top in the 81st minute.

Monaco hosted Montpellier three months ago, on October 18, and the game ended 1-1. Much earlier in 2020, in February, Monaco won 1-0, as hosts.

A 1-2 victory for the visitors is predicted at full-time.

Date: Friday, 15th of January, 2021.

Venue: Stade de la Mosson

Kick-off time: 21:00 (GMT+2).
