Rennes vs Monaco – Ligue 1 Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 4 continues with Rennes taking on Monaco on Saturday the 19th of September, 2020, at Roazhon Park.

Rennes have looked great in their first three league matches this season, drawing with Lille away from home, beating Montpellier 2-1, and last but not least, triumphing at Nimes last weekend (2-4). Their current form reads; WLWDL. On seven points from three matches, they are… living a small dream, seeing the name of their team at the top of the table, no matter if the season is still so incredibly young. Coach Julien Stéphan chose a 4-3-3 formation last weekend, with Serhou Guirassy as his number 9. The 24-year-old striker scored his team’s first two goals. Centre-back Nayef Aguerd made it 2-3 in the 72nd minute (Rennes had to take the lead three times to finally… break Nimes), and central midfielder Benjamin Bourigeaud put the cherry on top for Rennes deep into added time, finishing off a perfect counterattack to make it 2-4.

Just like Rennes, Monaco are on seven points from their first three league matches, after beating Nantes 2-1 at home last weekend. They signed winger Willem Geubbels two years ago from Lyon, when he was still just 17(!), but he practically missed the entire last season due to injuries. He has played in all three Monaco matches at the start of this new campaign, and against Nantes he scored the winner in the 65th minute, his first Ligue 1 goal ever, one he will definitely never forget. Monaco’s current form reads; WWWDW. Coach Niko Kovac played a 4-3-3 formation against Nantes. Truth is, Monaco looked threatening offensively, but defensively they left a lot to be desired, and were rather lucky to concede just once. Sofiane Diop also scored his first ever Ligue 1 goal, giving Monaco the lead in the first half. He is just 20, one of Monaco’s several super promising youngsters. Cesc Fábregas (talking about the… opposite of youngsters) started for the first time.

Rennes and Monaco met only once last season; Monaco won 3-2 (coming back from 1-2 down).

Super interesting game, one that promises goals to neutral fans who are after two pleasant hours watching football.

A 2-2 draw is predicted at full-time.

Date: Saturday, 19th of September, 2020.

Venue: Roazhon Park

Kick-off time: 21:00 (GMT+2).
