Inter Milan vs Borussia Monchengladbach – UEFA Champions League Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Group B Match Day 1 encounter, with Inter Milan taking on Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday the 21st of October, 2020, at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

The last thing Inter needed before their UCL group stage debut, was a loss in Milan’s derby. They did lose 1-2 on Saturday, they can’t get those three points back, but the glass was/is not 100% empty. Even AC Milan fans would accept that Inter looked better in most of the game, had way more scoring chances than their city rivals, and the final 1-2 for the Rossoneri is just not really representative of how the whole game went. Their current form reads; LDWWW. Seven points for them from their first four games in the Serie A. Coach Antonio Conte called AC Milan “good but also lucky” after the game on Saturday, trying to strike a balance between looking like a “bigger person” while also speaking his mind regarding how “unfair” the final score was. Inter have to do better than last season in the UCL group stage; seven points were not enough to push them to the last 16 last year.

Gladbach are dealing with their own problems… On Saturday they drew 1-1 with Wolfsburg at home, taking the lead in the 78th minute but failing to protect it. Their current form reads; DWDLW. Five points from their first four games in the Bundesliga is just poor for a team that last season finished in the top four. Should be mentioned though that they won their last away game, in Koln, just before the October international break (1-3). Coach Marco Rose didn’t have striker Alassane Pléa available last weekend, as his wife gave birth to their first child, but the 27-year-old did travel with the group to Italy. “The baby has come, and I'm convinced that 'Lasso' will not take a year of maternity leave. Therefore, I'm sure that he will play against Inter on Wednesday”, Rose joked talking to reporters on Monday.

Inter and Gladbach have played four matches against each other in the past, but all four were in the 70s. Inter won 4-2 at home and drew 0-0 in Germany in the early 70s, and Gladbach won 2-3 in Italy and drew 1-1 at home late in the same decade.

Inter should take care of business. Even a win by two goals wouldn’t be a surprise.

A 3-1 victory for the hosts is predicted at full-time.
