Valencia vs Atletico Madrid – La Liga Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 11 encounter, with Valencia taking on Atletico Madrid on Saturday the 28th of November, 2020, at Estadio de Mestalla.

Valencia visited Alavés two weeks ago, found themselves 2-0 down just 16 minutes into the game(!), stayed 2-0 down until the 72nd minute, but managed to score twice after that, and salvage a point. Their current form reads; DWDLL. They are on 12 points from 10 matches, 9th on the table. They have 3W, 3D and 4L, having stayed undefeated in their last three games. Goals, 17 scored, very well, 16 conceded, very poor. Only two teams, 12th-placed Betis and bottom-of-the-table Celta have conceded more goals than them. Coach Javi Gracia played a 4-4-2 formation last weekend, with Kevin Gameiro and Lee Kang-In up front. Manu Vallejo substituted Denis Cheryshev in the 58th minute, and in the 72nd he scored, giving hope to Valencia. Hugo Guillamón followed suit, equalizing just five minutes later.

Atlético Madrid hosted Barcelona last weekend in an absolutely massive game, which ended in a triumph for the Rojiblancos. The score was not impressive, “just” 1-0, but considering that it was the first time Atlético beat Barcelona in La Liga with Diego Simeone as their coach, you get an idea how… special that “simple” 1-0 was. Don’t be confused, Atlético had beaten Barcelona before with Simeone in charge, but in the Champions League and in Spain’s Super Cup, not in La Liga. Their current form reads; DWWDW. Midweek, they were the far better team against Lokomotiv Moscow, in a Champions League match, but no matter what they tried, they couldn’t score, and had to settle for a goalless draw. They are on 20 points from eight matches in La Liga, second on the table, three points behind leaders Real Sociedad, but with two games in hand. They have 6W and 2D, no defeat yet, the only team left undefeated in La Liga this season. Goals, 18 scored, just two conceded. It goes without… writing, no other team has conceded less goals than them. Actually, they have the best offence as well, as their 18 goals are more, per game, than Real Sociedad’s 21 (from 10 matches). Coach Simeone played a 5-3-2 formation against Barcelona. It was Carrasco who scored the only goal of the match just before halftime.

Valencia and Atlético drew twice last season, 1-1 in Madrid and 2-2 at Mestalla.

Atlético have been fantastic thus far, and despite being in the middle of big Champions League games, they should still beat this Valencia, even by just half a goal.

A 0-1 victory for the visitors is predicted at full-time.

Date: Saturday, 28th of November, 2020.
