Atletico Madrid vs Granada – La Liga Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 3 continues with Atletico Madrid taking on Granada on Sunday the 27th of September, 2020, at Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.

Atlético Madrid were active in the Champions League’s 2019-20 season until August 13, when they lost to RB Leipzig in the quarterfinals, that’s why they haven’t debuted yet in La Liga. Their current form reads; LDWWD. Coach Diego Simeone is one of the hundreds of thousands of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in Spain these past months. Thankfully, the virus didn’t cause him any serious problems (he was asymptomatic). Things are different with Uruguayan centre-back José Giménez who tested positive just a few days ago. On Monday he informed the club’s doctor that he was having symptoms, he was experiencing a loss of smell and taste. The test came out positive, and obviously he has gone into quarantine, meaning that he will be missing not just this game, but the next two ones as well. As you probably already know, Atlético signed Luis Suárez from Barcelona just a few days ago.

Granada are… living a dream. It started two weeks ago, when they beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 at home, on their La Liga debut. Five days later they beat Teuta Durrës 0-4 in the Europa League second qualifying round. Next, a second victory in La Liga, a 2-1 at home over Deportivo Alavés. Last but not least, yet another qualification in the Europa League, this time for the playoffs, after beating Lokomotivi Tbilisi 2-0 at home on Thursday. Their current form reads; WWWWL. Do keep in mind, Granada will be visiting Malmö FF on Thursday, for a EL playoff knockout match. Coach Diego Martínez told reporters after Thursday’s victory that the team had “patience and concentration”. Granada had to wait until the 48th minute to take the lead, and the qualification was not secured before added time, when they scored their second goal.

Atlético beat Granada 1-0 at home last season, but all they managed as guests was a 1-1 draw.

Atlético need a positive start, despite debuting this season against a team in awesome form.

A 1-0 victory for Atlético is predicted at full-time.

Date: Sunday, 27th of September, 2020.

Venue: Estadio Wanda Metropolitano

Kick-off time: 16:00 (GMT+2).
