AS Roma vs Spezia – Serie A Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 19 encounter, with Roma taking on Spezia on Saturday the 23rd of January, 2021, at Stadio Olimpico.

Roma faced Lazio last weekend, technically as guests, conceded twice in the first 23 minutes(!), and ended up losing 3-0. Midweek, an even more shocking defeat for them; they hosted Spezia in a knockout Coppa Italia match, again they conceded twice in the first 15 minutes(!!), managed to equalize, the game went to extra-time, and there, in just two minutes, they lost TWO players to red cards. Playing nine vs 11 they conceded twice more, lost 2-4, and got eliminated. Their current form reads; LLDWW. They are on 34 points from 18 matches in Serie A, 4th in the table. They have 10W, 4D and 4L, they actually had 10 points from four matches before losing to Lazio last weekend. Goals, 37 scored, 29 conceded. They have been scoring just over two goals per game, but that “29 conceded” is the worst record among all top-10 teams in the league. Coach Paulo Fonseca played a 3-4-2-1 formation against Lazio, with Dzeko up front.

Spezia visited Torino last weekend, lost a man to a direct red card just eight minutes into the game, but somehow they managed to… persevere, kept a clean sheet, and earned a point, a remarkable achievement, considering that they played 10 vs 11 for more than 80 minutes. Midweek, as previously mentioned, they triumphed in Rome, qualified for the Coppa Italia quarterfinals, and in a few days they will be visiting Napoli. Their current form reads; WDWWL. They are on 18 points from as many games in Serie A, 13th in the table. They have 4W, 6D and 8L, having earned seven points from their last three matches. Goals, 23 scored, 32 conceded. Coach Vincenzo Italiano started the game against Torino with a 4-3-3 formation, but obviously he had to… make arrangements after losing Vignali in the 8th minute to a direct red card.

As previously mentioned, Spezia beat Roma 2-4 in extra-time on Tuesday. Incredibly, before that, their previous clash had been another Coppa Italia match, in December 2015, again in Rome, which Spezia won on penalties(!).

A 3-1 victory for the hosts is predicted at full-time.

Date: Saturday, 23rd of January, 2021.

Venue: Stadio Olimpico

Kick-off time: 15:00 (GMT+2).
