AC Milan vs Cagliari – Serie A Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 38 continues with AC Milan taking on Cagliari on Saturday the 1st of August, 2020, at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

AC Milan looked awesome on Wednesday when they visited Sampdoria, won 1-4, and could have scored more. A couple of hours after their game ended, they knew Roma had just beaten Torino, meaning that the Rossoneri cannot climb higher then 6th. This, in turn, means that to reach the Europa League group stage next season, they will need to eliminate three teams in two qualifying rounds and the playoffs. Milan’s current form reads; WDWWW. They have 18W, 9D and 10L, having scored 60 goals and conceded 46, which leaves them with a 14GD. Keep in mind, they have eight wins and three draws, no defeat, after the restart of the season, mid/late June. Coach Stefano Pioli, who signed a two-year extension to his existing contract, played a 4-2-3-1 formation against Sampdoria, with Zlatan Ibrahimović up front. The Swede scored twice and provided the assist for Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s goal. As announced a few days ago, he too will be staying at AC Milan for next season.

Cagliari hosted champions Juventus on Wednesday, here we had predicted a draw, expecting Juve to look tired (while also missing key players due to injury), but the Sardinia side… took it a step further, actually beating the Bianconeri 2-0(!). Their current form reads; WLLDL. Cagliari are 13th on the table, on 45 points, and if they win this game as well, they could finish as high up as 10th. They have 11W, 12D and 14L, having scored 52 goals and conceded 53, which leaves them with a -1GD. Coach Walter Zenga played a 3-4-1-2 formation against Juventus. Luca Gagliano opened the scoring in the 8th minute (the first Serie A goal for the 20-year-old, in his just second appearance), and Giovanni Simeone made it 2-0 in the first half’s added time, his 12th goal from 36 Serie A appearances this season.

The reverse fixture, which took place in January this year, was a 0-2 Milan victory (both goals scored in the second half). Last season, the Rossoneri beat Cagliari 3-0 at home, while the other match between these two was a 1-1 draw.

Milan have been hot for weeks now, and we should not expect them to look… indifferent in the last game of the season, despite knowing that they can no longer overlap Roma on the table.

A 3-1 victory for Milan is predicted at full-time.

Date: Saturday, 1st of August, 2020.
