Villarreal vs Eibar – La Liga Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 2 continues with Villarreal taking on Eibar on Saturday the 19th of September, 2020, at Estadio de la Cerámica.

Villarreal got rather surprised by Huesca last weekend, on their debut in this season’s La Liga. They hosted last season’s Segunda División champions, who, despite being newly-promoted, looked super competitive. Villarreal went 0-1 down late in the first half, and needed a really harsh penalty decision to equalize in the 68th minute. In the remainder of the match, any of the two teams could have won it. At the end of the day, that 1-1 draw was not the worst that could have happened to Villarreal last weekend. Their current form reads; DLWLL. Coach Unai Emery played some sort of 4-4-1-1 formation, with Paco Alcácer up front, and Gerard Moreno behind him. It was the latter who equalized for Villarreal from the penalty spot. As for Alcácer, he didn’t help that much, and got substituted by Takefusa Kubo in the 77th minute. The young Japanese missed a good chance to score later on.

Eibar looked second best on the pitch last weekend, when they hosted Celta, they hardly visited their rivals’ box, but they still managed to earn a point, drawing 0-0. Their current form reads; DDDLW. Coach José Mendilibar played a 4-4-2 formation, with Kike and Sergi Enrich up front. As previously mentioned though, Eibar hardly threatened Celta. Their best moment was a shot taken from a long distance, that sent the ball pass close to Celta’s horizontal post. Eibar finished the game with 10 players, as Diop got sent-off in the 87th minute, seeing a second yellow card in a matter of just six minutes.

Last season, Eibar beat Villarreal at home, 2-1, but after the virus-enforced break, when they traveled to Estadio de la Cerámica, they got embarrassed, losing 4-0. Generally, Villarreal have three wins in a row at home over Eibar, having kept a clean sheet in all three victories.

Villarreal are much better than what they showed last weekend. They should look improved, and win the game.

A 2-0 victory for the hosts is predicted at full-time.
