Torino vs Sampdoria – Serie A Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 9 encounter, with Torino taking on Sampdoria on Monday the 30th of November, 2020, at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

Torino visited Inter Milan last weekend, took a 0-1 lead at halftime, made it 0-2(!) in the 62nd minute from the penalty spot, but just five minutes later they were level at 2-2, and two more goals conceded in the dying minutes of the match left them empty-handed (4-2). Midweek, they hosted Virtus Entella in Coppa Italia, won 2-0, qualified for the next round, and will be facing AC Milan away from home in January. Their current form reads; WLDWL. They are on just five points from eight matches in Serie A, 18th in the table before Sunday’s games. They have 1W, 2D and 5L, with 14 goals scored and 20 conceded. Coach Marco Giampaolo played a 3-5-2 formation in Milan last weekend, with Verdi and Zaza up front. The latter was the one who opened the scoring late in the first half. Ansaldi took the penalty in the 62nd minute.

Things are not going well at Sampdoria… Just before the international break, they lost 2-0 at Cagliari. Last weekend, at home, versus Bologna, they took the lead, but ended up losing again, 1-2. Midweek, yet another defeat, a particularly painful one. They faced city rivals Genoa in a knockout Coppa Italia game, once again they took the lead, but (guess…), they conceded three times in the second half, to lose 1-3(!). Their current form reads; LLLDW. They are on 10 points from eight matches in Serie A, 10th in the table before Saturday’s games, having back-to-back defeats, and just one point from their last three games. They have 3W, 1D and 4L, with 12 goals scored and 13 conceded. Coach Claudio Ranieri played a 4-3-3 formation against Bologna last weekend. Thorsby scored Samp’s goal, not enough to earn them a point.

Samp beat Torino twice last season, 1-0 in Genoa and 1-3 as guests.

Sampdoria may be sitting much higher than Torino in the table, but after three consecutive defeats (Coppa Italia included), anything could happen in this game. Generally, Samp are a… tough team to “read”, they have significant ups and downs. Before losing at Cagliari three weeks go, in their last away game, they had beaten Atalanta 1-3 in Bergamo(!).

A 1-1 draw is predicted at full-time.

Date: Monday, 30th of November, 2020.
