Fiorentina vs Torino – Serie A Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 1 gets under way with Fiorentina taking on Torino on Saturday the 19th of September, 2020, at Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Fiorentina failed to finish higher than 10th last season in the Serie A, staying far away from the Europa League spots. In 38 matches, they had 12W, 13D and 13L, scoring 51 goals and conceding 48. They did finish the season winning back-to-back matches though, and they looked… hungry for goals in their preseason friendlies, albeit against weak opponents. Their current form reads; WWWWW. Coach Giuseppe Iachini took over last December, and is still in charge. Fiorentina spent almost 40m euros to sign striker Christian Kouamé from Genoa, central midfielder Alfred Duncan and right-back Pol Lirola from Sassuolo, while they also brought in Giacomo Bonaventura (last at AC Milan), and Borja Valero (last at Inter Milan) on free transfers. Actually, you may remember that Valero used to be a Fiorentina player before moving to Inter, playing for the Florence side from 2012 until 2017.

Torino finished just 16th last season in the Serie A, on 40 points, five more than Lecce, the first team below the relegation line. In 38 league matches they had 11W, 7D and 20L, scoring 46 goals and conceding 68(!). Their current form reads; LDWDL. As you can tell, their performances in the preseason friendlies against mostly weak sides were anything but convincing. Coach Marco Giampaolo took over 5-6 weeks ago, and this will obviously be his official debut. Torino made some interesting signings these last weeks, spending no less than 20m euros on winger Simone Verdi, 7.5m euros for central midfielder Karol Linetty, 5.5m for right-back Mërgim Vojvoda, and 3m euros for left-back Ricardo Rodríguez. Actually, they are not done yet, as there are rumours they are in the market for at least one more player.

Last season (actually, mid-July), Fiorentina beat Torino 2-0 in Florence. Months earlier, the Turin side had done the same (2-1) at their home.

First game of the season, whatever that means… Very interesting game for sure, but as for predictions…

A 1-1 draw is predicted at full-time.

Date: Saturday, 19th of September, 2020.

Venue: Stadio Artemio Franchi

Kick-off time: 18:00 (GMT+2).
