Freiburg vs Stuttgart – Bundesliga Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 18 encounter, with Freiburg taking on Stuttgart on Saturday the 23rd of January, 2021, at Schwarzwald-Stadion.

Freiburg hosted Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, went 0-1 down super early, in the 6th minute, but not only they equalized before halftime, they even took the lead in the 63rd minute. Ironically, it was one of their own players who equalized for Eintracht with an own-goal. Final score, 2-2, one point for Freiburg. Their current form reads; DLWWL. They are on 24 points from 17 matches, 9th in the table. They have 6W, 6D and 5L, having earned one point from their last two matches (they had lost to Bayern before hosting Eintracht), after five consecutive Bundesliga victories, a club record. Goals, 31 scored, 28 conceded. Coach Christian Streich played a 4-4-2 formation against Einttracht, with Demirovic and Holer up front. It was Sallai who equalized for Freiburg in the 32nd minute, Petersen who gave them the lead in the 63rd (he had come off the bench just five minutes earlier), and Schlotterbeck who inadvertently equalized 2-2 for Eintracht with an own-goal.

Stuttgart visited Arminia Bielefeld midweek, went 1-0 down in the 27th minute, and never really recovered. An own-goal less than two minutes into the second half made their mission even harder, and a late third Arminia goal just… completed Stuttgart’s misery, 3-0 defeat, their second in four 2021 Bundesliga matches. Their current form reads; LDWLW. They are on 22 points from 17 games, 10th in the table. They have 5W, 7D and 5L, having won just one of their last five matches, and earned no more than four points from the same five games. Goals, 32 scored, 27 conceded. It’s impressive that only Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have scored more than Stuttgart this season. Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo played a 3-4-2-1 formation against Arminia, with Kalajdzic up front. As guests, Stuttgart have lost just two of their nine away matches this season, but both are in their last three away from home.

Back in September, in the reverse fixture, Freiburg won 2-3 as guests. The two teams met again in Stuttgart in December, in a knockout DFB Pokal match, which the hosts won 1-0.

A 2-2 draw is predicted at full-time.

Date: Saturday, 23rd of January, 2021.

Venue: Schwarzwald-Stadion

Kick-off time: 15:30 (GMT+2).
