ST HELENS SAINTS VS CATALANS DRAGONS

SUNDAY AUGUST 2, 4.15 PM, EMERALD HEADINGLEY STADIUM, LEEDS

The long-awaited resumption is here for Rugby League fans in the UK and across the world as these two teams gear up to take each other on in what is sure to be a lively first-up game.  Players will probably take some time to adjust to the new rules, where there is to be no scrums in an effort to avoid Covid-19 infection scenarios, and the 6-again rule where tackles are added for ruck infringements.  Ideal Rugby League conditions await these players as it is to be nice and cool, with a breeze, and dry.  St Helens, last years champions got off to a mediocre start to the year having a 3-3 record and will be looking to string some wins together, whilst the Dragons were electric to start the year at 3-1 and have a real chance to station themselves in the top echelon of teams with the right result today.

St Helens favourite son, James Graham has returned, after leading them into the 2011 Grand Final, then embarking on a remarkable career with Canterbury Bulldogs and then St George Illawarra Dragons in the NRL, he is home.  That is a humongous boost for the side.  Catalans too have some mega-star signees, namely former NSW State Of Origin Half James Maloney and controversial dual international Israel Folau, who can surely lead the French franchise to glory.  St Helens will be looking to some other key playmakers to lead them too, with former Cowboys premiership star Lachlan Coote and veteran Rake, James Roby at the top of that list.  Meanwhile, others for Catalans to watch are tryscoring star Yaha and former Roosters player Moa.

St Helens lead this matchup 20-13, though last time they met on neutral grounds the Dragons had an emphatic 35-16 win.  Saints veteran McCarthy-Scarsbrook has a milestone to remember as he plays his 350th, though neither team needs further motivation, having sat out for 20 weeks due to the raging pandemic.  St Helens are strong $1.25 favourites to reboot their season with a win, while the Dragons are out at $4.00, with a margin prediction of around 10-points; this data is a little bemusing considering the Dragons obvious quality and start to 2020.  A mutual respect between opposition spokesmen ensure fans and media alike that this game will be played in fine spirit and a great respect for each other.

PREDICTION: St Helens to give Graham a welcome return gift, of the win, in a tight one by less than 8.

BETTING TIP: The 1-12 margin market is where the value is at, St Helens @$2.90 represents value, but a huge over is the Dragons @5.00.
