NRL ROUND 19

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS VS CANTERBURY BULLDOGS

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 17, 7.50 PM, ANZ STADIUM, SYDNEY

South Sydney will be looking to tune-up for the Finals by smashing Canterbury in this Thursday night fixture, like they did Parramatta a couple of weeks ago, while the Doggies can have a spoiling laugh by taking the points, which would hurt Souths final position dearly.  Last week, Souths did ok to defeat a valiant Tigers outfit that were fighting for a small chance to keep their Finals hopes alive, which would have been dashed when Cronulla won anyhow.  The Bunnies need to improve though, especially on fringe defence, if they can eventually get their best outside Backs on the park, it will be ideal.  Canterbury tried hard but came up well short against fellow battlers Manly, losing 32-20, and for now at least holding tightly on to the wooden spoon.  Windy and cloudy conditions will await at Sydney for this fixture, though it should be dry after a very warm day, as Spring is upon us.

South Sydney have lost Gagai for this match after he was suspended for 1 from the game last Thursday, leaving Jaxson Paulo as the man coach Bennett turns too to fill the void.  Mago also misses after being a viable bench player the last few games and is replaced by Hame Sele, who will play his 6th game of the season, as a go-forward merchant and tackling machine from the bench.  Meaney misses out for Canterbury, with Watene-Zelezniak moving to a Wing and Lafai returning in the Centre position, while Doorey is out hurt, giving Chris Smith a start at Lock.  Also changing positions is Thompson who moves to Prop, Jackson to the Backrow and To’omaga to the bench, while Katoa is recalled joining him, and Britt is out of the 17.

These teams met back in July and the Rabbitohs won 4-tries-to-2, 26-10, thanks to a massive effort from Gagai and gun Forward, Cameron Murray while Reynolds was very good with the boot.  These teams met in a recent Grand Final in 2014, handing the Bunnies a memorable title, while in 2019 they had 2 games, with each team winning 14-6, splitting the results.  Souths are $1.10 favourites, with a 16.5-point predicted margin, showing that the bookies give Canterbury little chance as they are quoted at $7.  Canterbury would stun the NRL world by beating Souths in this clash, as the Bunnies have it all to paly for, and just recently were included in most conversations, regards who wins the Premiership, especially after demolishing Parramatta.

PREDICITON: Souths in an easy win.

BETTING TIP: Graham has been in scintillating try-scoring form, back him to score 2 or more @$6.
