NRL ROUND 13

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS VS BRISBANE BRONCOS

FRIDAY AUGUST 7, 7.55 PM, ANZ STADIUM, SYDNEY

Bennett meets his old Broncos in what ought to be a blockbusting Friday night affair, after the Broncs have shows some signs of life lately, while Souths are unpredictable but exciting, while underachieving.  The Bunnies managed to pull off a comeback win against St George Illawarra last Thursday, thanks to plenty of fine work from the likes of Cody Walker and Alex Johnston with Cook steering the ship.  Brisbane were the opposite they led and should have won against Cronulla only to see the game move away from them in the final ten minutes, and record yet another loss.  Wet weather will affect this game, but for Souths a win is the only option, as they need to move further inside the 8, to safety, while the Broncos are no chance of playing meaningful matches unless they win a bunch in a row from here.

Reynolds was a liability to fantasy coaches last weekend as he recorded a negative score, due to his early exit with injury, but is named again for Souths in an unchanged line-up, that looks quite strong.  Brisbane have been dealt a major blow, with enigmatic Half/Fullback Milford out for a month with a hamstring issue, which is countered by the return of superstar prospect David Fifita after a long layoff of his own.  Croft is back for Brisbane, to replace Milford while Ofahengaue slides to the interchange bench, to accommodate the inclusion of Fifita, while Bellemor misses out and is named as an emergency.

Brisbane have dominated South Sydney since their inclusion in the NRL winning 29 from 41 and drawing once, leaving Souths with just 11 wins.  However, two of those wins came in 2019, when the Bunnies destroyed the Broncos 38-6, with Walker, Thomas Burgess and Cook all having highlight games and a 22-20 edging of them in August, despite Fifita scoring a pair of tries.  Souths are $1.28 favourites, with the Broncos reeling in the market at $3.75, and a predicted margin of almost 2 converted tries.  Brisbane will be a better side with Fifita included and Boyd looked at home in the Fullback position, but Souths have more to play for and look like they are ready to find their best, with the likes of Cook and Walker really hitting their straps.

PREDICTION: Souths by 10-12.

BETTING TIP: Brisbane are playing well in patches so a Brisbane lead at HT, Souths win is feasible, and worth a shot @$6.50.
