Strasbourg vs Saint-Etienne – Ligue 1 Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 20 encounter, with Strasbourg taking on Saint-Etienne on Sunday the 17th of January, 2021, at Stade de la Meinau.

Strasbourg visited Lens last weekend, opened the scoring relatively early, in the 21st minute, and managed to protect that slim lead until the final whistle, to celebrate their second win in a row, after their impressive 5-0 at home over Nimes. Their current form reads; WWLLW. They are on 20 points from 19 matches, 15th in the table. They have 6W, 2D and 11L, with two of those six wins coming, as previously mentioned, in their last two games. Goals, 28 scored, 32 conceded. Coach Thierry Laurey played a 4-2-3-1 formation against Lens, with Ajorque up front. It was Diallo who scored the only goal of the match, his seventh this season, from 13 Ligue 1 appearances (actually, from 17, as he moved to Strasbourg from Metz after the start of the season, having already played four times for his previous club, not scoring though, for them). The 25-year-old Senegalese scored a total of 38 goals for Metz over 2018-19 and 2019-20, but they were still… fine with letting him go.

Saint-Etienne visited Reims last weekend, having stayed undefeated in no less than seven consecutive Ligue 1 matches (although only one of those ended in a win of theirs). Somehow, they got outplayed by Reims, found themselves 2-0 down at halftime(!), 3-0 down before the hour mark, and all they managed in the remainder of the match was to score a consolation goal (3-1). Their current form reads; LDDDW. They are on 19 points from 19 matches, 16th in the table. They have 4W, 7D and 8L, having earned just three points from their last four games. Goals, 20 scored, 29 conceded. Coach Claude Puel played a 4-4-2 formation against Reims, with Boudebouz and Bouanga up front. Youngster Abi came off the bench in the 69th minute, and three later he scored Saint-Etienne’s only goal of the match, his first of the season, from eight Ligue 1 appearances. Actually, that was the first Ligue 1 goal ever for the 20-year-old, on his 26th (in total, over three seasons) appearances.

Saint-Etienne beat Strasbourg 2-0 at home last September.

A 1-1 draw is predicted at full-time.
