AUSTRALIAN RUGBY ROUND 7

MELBOURNE REBELS VS ACT BRUMBIES

FRIDAY AUGUST 7, 7.05 PM, LEICHHARDT OVAL, SYDNEY

The unbeaten Brumbies head to Sydney for this clash as they look to continue their dominance in the domestic tournament against the Rebels who sit 3rd, ahead of the Waratahs with a 2 wins, 1 draw record from the 4 matches to date.  The Brumbies proved yet again why they are the team to beat, by squeezing past the Reds 22-20 in a terrific tussle at GIO last weekend, but cannot rest on their laurels here as the Rebels too will be a big test.  Melbourne defeated an improving Force unit last Friday night and look capable of testing the Brumbies but will need a lot to go right for them.  The rain may help, but the Brumbies are probably equally as used to the cold wet weather as the Melbourne players, as both locations have these conditions often.

Half Louwren misses out for the Rebels, with Queenslander Tuttle to replace him in a debut for the 24-year old after playing some matches for the Reds when much younger.  Flanker Ha’angana is also out for the Rebels and replaced on the bench by Michael Stoberg a huge bodied Queenslander who had been playing in Japan for the Sunwolves and Philip in the starting side.  Wells another large key Forward misses too and is replaced by Kemeny, while Pincus the Winger is out, giving Magnay an opportunity.  Tom Wright is out of the Brumbies side and replaced by Muirhead, giving Ikitau a chance from the bench, while Fines also drops off the bench in favour of Lonergan, a Half with a fine juniors pedigree.

The Brumbies won this matchup by 8, in the opening round of this tournament, dominating metres gained, and clean breaks, while they missed just 9 tackles all game as opposed to the Rebels 27.  They did however concede more penalties, which is what kept the Rebels close enough to damage them, though they held on and won, they will not want that to be the case here.  The Brumbies are $1.52 favourites, while the Rebels can sniff an upset at $2.65 and less than a try being the predicted margin.  Expect the Brumbies to show why they are the best Rugby team in the country and come out blazing, but these Rebels will fight, and we are in for a cracking encounter.

PREDICTION: Brumbies by a small margin like the other tight matches they have won, this year against Queensland and New South Wales.

BETTING TIP: Brumbies by 1-12 margin market is healthy @$2.60.
