Metz vs Nantes – Ligue 1 Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 21 encounter, with Metz taking on Nantes on Sunday the 24th of January, 2021, at Stade Saint-Symphorien.

Metz visited Lyon last weekend, and produced a massive surprise, not only because few expected their 0-1 victory, but also because all they had managed in their three previous matches was two points, drawing twice at home, against teams not at Lyon’s level. Metz snatched all three points with a 90th-minute goal, shocking Lyon. Their current form reads; WDDLW. They are on 28 points from 20 matches, 10th in the table. They have 7W, 7D and 6L, having lost just one of their last five games. Goals, 21 scored, 18 conceded. Only PSG and Lille, the top two teams in the table, have done better than Metz this season defensively. Coach Frederic Antonetti played a 3-4-1-2 formation against Lyon, with Gueye and Vágner up front. Leya came off the bench in the 61st minute to take Gueye’s place, and he was the one who scored Metz’s golden goal in the 90th minute, his third of the season from 10 Ligue 1 appearances, half of which have been as a substitute.

Nantes hosted Lens last weekend, opened the scoring in the 36th minute from the penalty spot, but couldn’t hold on to that lead, they got equalized in the 81st minute and had to settle for a single point. One more draw for them. Their current form reads; DDDLD. They are on 18 points from 20 matches, 17th in the table. They have 3W, 9D and 8L, having drawn in four of their last five games (they lost the other one). Goals, 20 scored, 32 conceded. Coach Raymond Domenech played a 4-4-2 formation against Lens, with Muani and Coulibaly up front. Louza took Nantes’ penalty in the 36th minute, to open the scoring. Should be mentioned that just three minutes earlier Lens had missed a penalty of their own. As for Louza, the 21-year-old is now on four goals from 16 Ligue 1 appearances this season, having already doubled his “two goals from 24 league matches” from 2019-20.

Back in November, in the reverse fixture, Nantes and Metz drew 1-1 with the former as hosts.

A 1-0 victory for the hosts is predicted at full-time.

Date: Sunday, 24th of January, 2021.

Venue: Stade Saint-Symphorien
