NRL ROUND 13

MANLY SEA EAGLES VS NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS

FRIDAY AUGUST 7, 6 PM, LOTTOLAND, SYDNEY

Manly will be looking to return serve with a win after an awful hiding at the hands of Penrith last round, losing 42-12, which sees them sink out of the 8, with a poor percentage to boot.  The Warriors were game, and managed to take the game off the Tigers winning 26-20 at the SCG, in the appetizer game on Friday evening, despite 4 of their stars pulling the pin and heading home to NZ.  While a Finals berth is probably wishful thinking, it is mathematically possible for the Warriors, but realistically they are playing the spoiler role for other hopefuls, which is exactly what they can achieve here.  Manly ought to be desperate for the win, and have the Lottoland advantage to help them along the way.  Cool wet conditions will probably affect the way the game is played, with less fancy movements, though the Warriors will probably feel at home.

22-year old Sydney product, Tevita Funa is called upon to play just his 5 NRL match for Manly, as Parker has succumbed to a head knock and failed protocols, at Centre.  In a major blow to Des’s team, Dylan Walker is out for up to 6 weeks due to a fracture in a foot, leaving the door ajar for impressive young Half, Cade Cust to continue his meteoric rise in the ranks.  Blake Green jumped ships and is now a Knight, leaving the Warriors short on experienced Halves, hence Chanel Harris-Tevita looks like the solution for the remainder of the year for coach Payten.  Payten himself made headlines earlier in the week, stating he would prefer a return to the Cowboys coaching position in 2021.

These two competed in the 2011 Grand Final, with Manly recording their most recent Premiership, to continue a very dominant matchup between the sides, that they lead 24-10 since 1995 when the Warriors were admitted to the NRL.  It was no different in 2019, as Manly slayed the Warriors 46-12 in round 3, with the likely stars starring namely Cherry-Evans, both Trbojevic brothers and Taupau, then in round 21 they won 24-16 with Garrick getting a brace of tries.  Manly are $1.23 favourites for this match, while the Warriors are out at $4.20 with a margin of 2-converted tries predicted.  Manly should be too strong, the loss of Green stings the Warriors and Cherry-Evans has plenty of platform-builders in his Forward pack to control the game.

PREDICTION: Manly by 16+.

BETTING TIP: Cust to score a try @$3.10 is nice odds.
