Dynamo Kyiv vs Juventus – UEFA Champions League Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Group G Match Day 1 encounter, with Dynamo Kyiv taking on Juventus on Tuesday the 20th of October, 2020, at NSK Olimpijs'kyj.

Dynamo had to eliminate Alkmaar in the third qualifying round and then Gent in the playoffs to reach the group stage. They won all three games, even the one in Belgium, by a total score of 7-1(!). Their current form reads; WDWWW. They last played on Saturday, when they beat Rukh Vynnyky 0-2 away from home. Six rounds of matches into the season, they are leading in Ukraine’s championship, on 14 points, two more than their biggest rivals, Shakhtar Donetsk. To be more exact, they were leading after Saturday’s win, and were waiting to see what Vorskla (on 11 points) would do against Olimpik Donetsk on Sunday. Coach Mircea Lucescu may have the team in the UCL group stage and at the top of the table in Ukraine’s championship, but is still the recipient of “GO AWAY” messages, coming from Dynamo’s “ultras”. Even on Saturday, some dozens of them gathered outside the stadium and repeated their message holding a big banner. The Romanian has been targeted by Dynamo’s “ultras” since day one, they simply cannot accept that a man whose name was synonymous to Shakhtar for years and years is now in charge at their own team.

Juventus visited Crotone on Saturday, having drawn with Roma in the previous (and only) game they had played away from home in the Serie A. One of the same; they got stuck to another draw, and if the first one was in Rome against a “big” rival, Saturday’s was definitely tougher to… swallow. Actually, things could have been worse than that final 1-1, as Juve played with 10 men after the 60th minute, which is when newly-signed Federico Chiesa received a direct red card(!). Their current form reads; DWDWW. They are on eight points from four matches in the Serie A. Coach Andrea Pirlo looked confident after Saturday’s game that the team will start… rolling better soon. It’s hard to have missed this news, but just in case, Juve are without Cristiano Ronaldo, who tested positive for Covid-19 after Portugal’s last match, and has to spend a total of 10 days (minimum) in isolation before returning to training with the team. He still hopes he will be able to play against Barcelona next week.

Dynamo and Juventus have met four times in the past; three wins for Juve, and a draw. Actually, the draw (1-1) was in Turin, in the first leg of a Champions League quarterfinal back in 1998. In the return leg though, the Bianconeri triumphed 1-4 in Ukraine, to qualify for the semis. They met again in the UCL group stage, in 2002, when Juventus won 5-0 in Turin and 1-2 in Kyiv.

Juventus should be able to score… half a goal more than Dynamo and earn all three points.

A 0-1 victory for Juve is predicted at full-time.
