Jeonbuk Motors vs Sydney – AFC Champions League Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Group H Match Day 4 encounter, with Jeonbuk Motors taking on Sydney on Wednesday the 25th of November, 2020, at Al Janoub Stadium, in Qatar.

Jeonbuk Motors flew to Qatar having won two domestic titles in a matter of a few days, first the K-League and then the FA Cup, but against Shanghai SIPG on Sunday, they failed, losing 1-2. Their current form reads; LWDWW. The situation in this group looks almost… dire for them, as they are on just one point from three games. Beating Sydney is an absolute must, but even that won’t really make them favourites to finish in the top two. For that, they will need even bigger results, against Yokohama F. Marinos and Shanghai SIPG (when they meet them again). Coach José Morais played a 4-1-4-1 formation on Sunday, with Brazilian Gustavo up front. He equalized for Jeonbuk in the 24th minute, but the Korean side conceded again, late, in the 82nd minute, from the penalty spot, to leave the pitch empty-handed.

Sydney have already played once in Qatar these last few days, they lost 1-2 to Shanghai SIPG last Thursday. Just like Jeonbuk, they are on a single point from three games, knowing their chances of finishing in the top two are super slim. That’s actually a massive difference between the two teams, missing out on a ticket to the knock-out stages won’t be a… disaster for Sydney, but it definitely would be for Jeonbuk Motors. They have been hugely successful in the 21st century, they know what it is like to win the AFC Champions League, they just won two more domestic titles, and finishing third in this group would be a big failure. Sydney’s current form reads; LWWWL. Coach Steve Gorica played some sort of a 4-4-2 formation against SIPG last week. Actually, Sydney took the lead early, less than 10 minutes into the game, thanks to a beautiful Trent Buhagiar goal, but conceded twice in the second half.

Jeonbuk and Sydney have met just once before, earlier this year, they drew 2-2 in Australia.

Jeonbuk simply… don’t have the right to fail in this match.

A 2-1 victory for the Korean side is predicted at full-time.
