UK CHALLENGE CUP QUARTER FINAL

HULL FC VS WIGAN WARRIORS

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 19, 5 PM, AJ BELL STADIUM, MANCHESTER

The second-leg of the Quarter Finals 2nd day double header pits Hull FC and Wigan in what is an intriguing clash, given their respective positions on the Super League table, and the excitement for Hull to attempt to pull off a major upset.  Hull FC booked their Quarter Final berth by defeating Castleford last weekend, in the delayed-due-to-Covid-19 match, winning 29-16, on the back of a 26-23 win against Wakefield just a few days earlier in the Super League.  Wigan are 8-3 in the Super League and enjoying a nice season, while Hull FC are down in 8th with a 5-6 record.  The Warriors last match came in France, when the dashed the French team Catalans winning streak with a strong 28-12 victory, after KR crushed them in the previous game.  Dry conditions are on hand, leaving no doubt that the Manchester stadium should be able to handle a double header without trouble.

After a family member showing Covid-19 symptoms, O’Loughlin sat the French trip out last week, but is on hand to return to the team for Wigan in this match, his first game in several months.  The rest of the team is settled and looks quite strong, with the likes of French, Hardaker and Hastings making up some of the core stars.  Hull FC have been handed a death-blow with Albert Kelly’s unavailability, while Fullback Shaul too will miss as will, Josh Jones.  Marc Sneyd does re-enter the team calculations this week after missing the Castleford win, replacing Kelly, and hopes to find the form that won him the Tood trophy, when his team won back in 2017.

In that campaign of 2017, the FC lads defeated Wigan long the way winning a tight 18-14 match, in August, while their most recent win against the Warriors came back in February 2019, when they won a Super League affair by 1.  Wigan have won the last two matches against Hull FC, including a 26-12 smashing of them in February and a thrilling 1-point win last August.  Wigan seem to have a strong record against Hull FC, but if it is tight the underdog Hull team go well, which could make this one a titanic battle.  Wigan are $1.33 favourites for this match, with a handicap mark of -8.5, while Hull FC are $3.40, probably mostly weakening in the market due to the absence of Albert Kelly.

PREDICTION: Wigan to win by 12ish.

BETTING TIP: $2.37 for Wigan to win by 13+ will please their supporters.
