HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS VS LEEDS RHINOS

SUNDAY AUGUST 2, 6.30 PM, EMERALD HEADINGLEY STADIUM, LEEDS

Covid-19 has forced the opening stages of the resumption to be played behind closed doors, further this is actually a home game for Huddersfield, despite playing in the Leeds franchise’ back yard.  The Giants got their season off to a strong start back in winter, winning 4 from 5, despite conceding more tries than they scored, suggesting they have some regression unless they counter with more tries.  Leeds, meanwhile, have the same record 4-1 and scored 20 more tries than they conceded, making them look much stronger statistically once one scratches the surface.  Good conditions await these players, provided the surface holds up following the preceding game, with players and officials alike surely excited to get the season rolling once again.

The Leeds roster is stacked with quality, including new signee Kruise Leeming, who has spent his entire 122-game career with Huddersfield, only to jump ship and debut in this clash at Hooker.  Huddersfield players to watch are Sezer the former Titan and Raiders NRL star and the run of forward Gavet who at times had lively performances in the premier Rugby League competition in the world.  Leeds have plenty of fine players set to take the field tonight, including veteran Winger Tom Briscoe, suiting up for a 301st game, Rob Lui another former NRL star with the Cowboys, Tigers and Adam Cutherbertson who played for 4 NRL clubs and represented City NSW before moving here in 2015.

Last August, Leeds taught Huddersfield a harsh lesson as they walloped them 44-0 and generally they have dominated the Giants, winning 32 to 11, with 3 draws in the Super League era.  Rhyse Martin might get to display his brilliant goal-kicking abilities again if the Rhinos get rolling, as he did back in a 66-12 hiding of Toronto before the halt in play, when he landed 11/11.  Woolford has given his opponents plenty of praise in the leadup, especially Hurrell and Leeming, while Agar too praised the work ethics of the Giants.  Leeds are $1.61 favourites for this clash, which is a little surprising, that they aren’t shorter, while Huddersfield is $2.30, and the predicted margin is just 4 points or so.

PREDICTION: Leeds too strong for Huddersfield, win by 10+.

BETTING TIP: The 13+ margin market is shaping nicely for the Rhinos, as it is $3.25 seems to have value.
