Koln vs Hertha Berlin – Bundesliga Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 16 encounter, with Koln taking on Hertha Berlin on Saturday the 16th of January, 2021, at RheinEnergieStadion.

Koln visited Freiburg last weekend, and… did not know what hit them; down 2-0 at halftime, not only they couldn’t react after the interval, but they conceded three more goals (5-0). Their current form reads; LLWDL. They are on 11 points from 15 matches, 16th in the table, dropping to the playoff position after Arminia Bielefeld’s victory over Hertha. They have 2W, 5D and 8L, having earned just one point from their last four games. Goals, 13 scored, 27 conceded. Coach Markus Gisdol played a 4-2-3-1 formation against Freiburg, with Modeste up front. As previously mentioned, Koln have earned just one point from their last four Bundesliga matches. That “W” seen in their “current form” is a DFB Pokal win over Osnabrück. As hosts, incredibly, they have not won a single Bundesliga match since February 2020(!), a 3-0 over Schalke. Since then, they have drawn five times, and lost no less than eight, in a total of 13 games. More specifically, they have lost four of their last five home matches.

Hertha visited Arminia Bielefeld last weekend, and suffered one of their worst defeats of the season. The score was small, “just” 1-0, but… given whom they faced, a team that had scored just nine goals in 14 Bundesliga matches this season, sitting (back then) in the playoff position, you could say that defeat was an… embarrassment for Hertha. Their current form reads; LWLDD. They are on 16 points from 15 matches, 12th in the table, five points ahead of Koln, the team currently occupying the playoff position. Hertha have 4W, 4D and 7L, having won just one of their last five Bundesliga games. Goals, 23 scored, 25 conceded. Coach Bruno Labbadia played a 4-3-3 formation against Arminia, with Córdoba, Lukébakio and Mittelstädt up front. Piątek was also sent in, seconds after Arminia’s goal in the 64th minute. As guests, Hertha have back-to-back defeats, and back-to-back draws before that. Their last win away from home was on November 7, a 0-3 at Augsburg.

Koln embarrassed Hertha last time they met, in February 2020, in Berlin, destroying them 0-5(!).

A 0-1 victory for the visitors is predicted at full-time.

Date: Saturday, 16th of January, 2021.

Venue: RheinEnergieStadion

Kick-off time: 15:30 (GMT+2).
