AFL ROUND 10

GOLD COAST SUNS VS ST KILDA SAINTS

THURSDAY AUGUST 6, 8.10 PM, METRICON STADIUM, GOLD COAST

Gold Coast have seemingly lost form a little over the last month or so, as they were hot back at the resumption, but are surely missing gun young Midfielder Rowell, and need to improve if they are a chance of beating the high-flying Saints.  St Kilda destroyed a dreadful Swans team last weekend by 53-points and find themselves 4th and a real contender to at least stay in the 8, with nobody knowing what the Finals will bring, or where they will be played even.  Gold Coast can certainly still be a part of those fun and games, but need to starting winning more frequently as they are 11th on 4-5, a full win outside the final position of the 8.  Like Brisbane, the Gold Coast has perfect AFL conditions predicted from game-time, with even less breeze and probably a few degrees warmer.

Gold Coast have made two adjustments to their side for this clash, leaving Hanley and MacPherson out of the side, after Pearce started in the Midfield against the Giants and MacPherson played a bench role.  Weller is given a start in the Midfield for this clash, while there are two new bench players, with Sean Lemmens given another go and debutant Jeremy Sharp a smallish Midfielder from Western Australia whom they drafted 27th overall is the other.  St Kilda have also omitted two players, with Parker and Savage not part of the side that hopes to celebrate Ryder’s 250th with a memorable victory.  22-year old utility player Ben Long comes in, at Centre Halfback for his 31st game after debuting in 2017, while former Demon Dean Kent is given another chance as he will start on the Half Forward flank.

Gold Coast have just 4 wins from the 13 matches these teams have contested since their inclusion to the AFL in 2011, and had their hearts broken twice last year alone in real close matches.  St Kilda won by just 1 point in March, then recorded a 4-point victory against the luckless Suns in June, which will surely spur both teams on to give the crowd another game worth remembering.  Gold Coast are given a chance by betting companies, with a quote of $2.60 while the Saints are $1.50, and the predicted margin is just around 2 goals.  A win for Gold Coast would surely get their hopes up for playing Finals footy for the very first time, it would be a real upset if they can knock St Kilda off though as they are playing outstandingly.

PREDICTION: A spirited performance but no competition points for Gold Coast, Saints by 10.

BETTING TIP: The 1-39 margin market is a little lean but $1.91 for the Saints is probably a safe bet.
