Essendon Bombers vs Melbourne Demons Live Stream

This game finally takes place after it was initially slated to happen way back on resumption weekend before Essendon had to postpone it due to a positive Covid-19 test, forcing their byes way earlier than the rest of the league. Essendon have seen their season fall apart after a decent first half of the year, with just 1 recent win, and were terrible last week when Port caned them by 50 and they could only manage 4 goals.  Melbourne have tried hard all season and hang in the picture of the top 8 by a thread as they need St Kilda and Western Bulldogs to lose and to win this game to have a bit of a chance at sneaking in the back door at the last minute.  They gave themselves that opportunity by defeating GWS last weekend which almost certainly ended their season, when the Demons got up by 5 points in a thriller.  Good but breezy conditions await these players on yet another Gold Coast fixture, unlikely to garner much of crowd despite the interest surrounding the composition of the top 8.

Melbourne have just 1 small adjustment from that valiant side that defeated the Giants, as they have left out Jetta in favour of Back Pocket, Michael Hibberd.  Hibberd started his career as a Bomber, playing 84 games before moving to the Demons where he will play his 60th match in his 4th season for the club.  Essendon have omitted Ruckman Andrew Phillips alongside Townsend and Mitchell Hibberd, leaving the likes of Laverde to play his 44th game, as well as Redman and experienced Halfback Michael Hurley.  Redman in his 3rd season will play a 26th game after being selected 30th way back in the 2015 draft, while Hurley is into game number 180.

In a high-scoring thriller back in April 2019 the last time these teams met the Bombers came away with an 18-point win, with McDonald-Tipungwuit, Stringer and McKernan each bagging 4 goals.  Essendon have 130 wins and 2 draws from the 215 matches between these two foundation clubs, though neither team have been near their best in recent years, which is certainly the case in 2020 again.  Melbourne are $1.48 favourites to win this match with predictors suggesting a 2-goal margin in their favour, with Essendon are at $2.65.  It would certainly add intrigue to the remaining matches and make St Kilda very nervous if the Demons got up and it was a hefty loss to Essendon.

PREDICTION: Melbourne by a goal or 2.

BETTING TIP: $1.91 seems short but is still good value for the Demons to win by 1-39.
