The Giants seem to have steadied themselves in 2020 and look to be a pertinent threat for the remainder of the season, with plenty to be optimistic about, including this match against Essendon.  Essendon are coming off one of the lowest moments of their season, as they could manage just 3 goals against Brisbane last weekend on their way to a 63-point shellacking, leaving them outside of the 8 on percentages.  They do have a game in hand over their rivals that they are logjammed on 5 wins with, including the Giants, which makes this game especially vital for either side and their chances of cementing a top 8 berth.  Wet windy conditions will more than likely make this game a battle of attrition, meaning basic skills will win the game, whoever executes better.

Essendon have wielded the axe after the loss last week with non-survivors including Ham, Gleeson and Cahill; while a big out is Bellchambers who they say is being rested.  Irish star McKenna returns again for Essendon, who just seem to be a better side with his presence on the field.  Langford also returns for his 67th game, starting in the Forward Pocket, while Guelfi is tasked with a starting Midfield role and veteran key Forward, Shaun McKernan will play from Full Forward.  De Boer is a brutal out for GWS as is Toby Greene who had been in fine form, while Sam Jacobs is also rested, leaving them a little thin in start key big men.  2018 draftee, Xavier O’Hallaran will debut for the Giants, living in the footsteps of his Grandfather who played for Footscray, from the bench.  Ward will play a vital role from Forward Pocket, while big man Mumford, gets another chance as starting Ruckman.

Back in March 2019, GWS put the cleaners through Essendon, and slayed them by 72 points in a thumping victory, while it was a lot closer the next time in June, when the Bombers got the chocolates by 1 goal.  It has been an evenly matched affair through the first 10 meetings between these clubs with Essendon leading 6-4, but suffering some bad losses like the one mentioned in March last year.  GWS are $1.44 favourites for this clash, leaving Essendon at $2.80 while the margin predicted is about 2 goals.  If GWS hit their straps, and the weather isn’t to inhibitive those numbers might be on the cautious side, as the Giants will have every chance to do what the Lions did just last match, making it a bitter night for Essendon.

BETTING TIP: Perhaps its too much of an ask but the 40+ margin market for the Giants is awfully enticing at $6.00.
