Charleroi vs Partizan – Europa League Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Third qualifying round knockout match, with Charleroi taking on Partizan on Thursday the 24th of September, 2020, at Stade du Pays de Charleroi.

Charleroi are… living a dream(!). Six game weeks into the season in Belgium’s championship, not only they are leading, but they are yet to drop a single point(!!). Six matches, six victories, having kept a clean sheet in four of those games. Their most recent match was last Friday, when they beat Beerschot 3-1 at home. The goal they conceded came in added time, when everything was already decided. Their current form reads; WWWWW. Coach Karim Belhocine has been in charge since July 2019. What makes Charleroi’s 6X6 in Belgium’s championship even more astonishing is that they hardly spent any money over the summer to strengthen their roster. They signed striker Kaveh Rezaei on loan from Club Brugge, two more guys arrived on free transfers, and left-back Ivan Goranov was signed from Levski Sofia for… peanuts. Rezaei has been their biggest… revelation thus far, scoring five goals.

Unlike Charleroi who did not have to play in previous qualifying rounds, Partizan had to eliminate Rīgas FS in the first one (1-0), and Sfîntul Gheorghe in the second one, last week. Against the Moldovan side they needed extra-time. Interestingly, both goals in the two previous qualifying rounds came from the penalty spot. Israeli Bibras Natcho took both. Partizan’s current form reads; WWWLW. On Sunday they beat Zlatibor Čajetina 0-1 in Serbia’s championship. Guess who and how scored the only goal of the match... Natcho, from the penalty spot, in the 80th minute. Coach Aleksandar Stanojevic took over on September 1st, signing a two-year contract. Partizan are second in Serbia’s championship, six points behind leaders Crvena Zvezda. On August 30 they lost 3-2 at Vojvodina, but it’s worth mentioning that other than that, they have won seven of their last eight matches, and not just that, but they have kept a clean sheet in all those seven victories(!).

Charleroi have never faced a team from Serbia before.

Charleroi have been in awesome form in their championship, but… it’s a question, where or not they will prove capable of replicating that form in a UEFA competition...

A 1-0 victory for the hosts is predicted at full-time.

Date: Thursday, 24th of September, 2020.

Venue: Stade du Pays de Charleroi

Kick-off time: 19:00 (GMT+2).
