Sparta Prague vs Celtic – UEFA Europa League Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Group H Match Day 4 encounter, with Sparta Prague taking on Celtic on Thursday the 26th of November, 2020, at Generali Arena.

That game in Glasgow three weeks ago was a product of Sparta Prague fans’ wildest dreams… Probably the most optimistic among them believed their team could earn all three points in Scotland, but… by 1-4?(!!) Sparta were 0-2 up at halftime having “taught” how counterattacks should be executed, and they offered a second… class in the second half, scoring twice more. Their current form reads; LLWLL. They are on three points from as many games in this group, the ones they earned in Glasgow three weeks ago. On Sunday they hosted České Budějovice, they went down twice, 0-1 and 1-2, equalized both times, but still lost, 2-4. It’s… striking that they have just one win and four losses in their last five games, and that win was a… historic triumph over Celtic away from home. Coach Vaclav Kotal played a played a 4-2-3-1 formation in Glasgow, with Lukas Juliš up front. The 25-year-old striker scored three goals(!). Ladislav Krejčí (number 9, the left midfielder; Sparta have another player by exactly the same name, number 37, a defensive midfielder) added the cherry on top in the 90th minute, having come off the bench 11 minutes earlier.

It looks like this is not… Celtic’s season… Failure in the Champions League qualifiers, apparent failure in the Europa League as well (they are on just one point from three matches in the group), they even seem to be losing the battle, at least up to now, against Rangers, in Scotland’s championship… Their current form reads; DWLWD. On Saturday they were losing 2-0 at Hibernian and needed two late goals to salvage a point. They are on 30 from 13 matches in their championship, 11 points behind leaders Rangers, but – at least – with two games in hand. Coach Neil Lennon played a 4-2-3-1 formation against Sparta three weeks ago. Leigh Griffiths came off the bench in the 59th minute, scored in the 65th, that 1-2 gave Celtic hope, but 11 minutes later they conceded again, and then… again.

Sparta have never hosted Celtic before. That 1-4 in Glasgow three weeks ago was the first – UEFA competition – game ever between these two.

Celtic are with their back against the wall. They want to bounce back in the group, but the question is, can they?

A 2-1 victory for the hosts is predicted at full-time.

Date: Thursday, 26th of November, 2020.

Venue: Generali Arena

Kick-off time: 18:55 (GMT+2).
