AUSTRALIAN SUPER RUGBY FINAL

ACT BRUMBIES VS QUEENSLAND REDS

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 19, 7.20 PM, GIO STADIUM, CANBERRA

The big day is upon us, not that we thought such a competition would exist as the Super 15 competition clicked into gear, pre-Covid but here we are, with a cracking Grand Final in what has been a quality competition to fill the void.  Queensland quashed every question asked from the Rebels in the Semi-Final at Suncorp Stadium, last Saturday recording a fine 25-13 victory, scoring 3 tries, conceding fewer penalties, while their scrum was strong.  That again is the key in winning big Rugby matches, and their test is now against a well-oiled Brumbies machine of Forwards, who have been so dominant for this competition and a long time in Australian domestic Rugby.  Breezy but ideal cool conditions await in the capital, for what is sure to be a match noted by the Wallabies staff as they go about planning for the international fixtures in the coming months.

Murray Douglas and Lachlan McCaffrey re-enter the Brumbies side for the big dance, with Swain out of the side Valenti on the bench, forming a new look Backrow for this vital match.  Different Halves have also been inked for the Brumbies with White and Kuenzle shuffled back to the bench, giving Powell and Lolesio the start in what is something of a bombshell.  JP Smith starts at Prop for Queensland as Semi-Final starter Harry Hoopert is named in the 17 jersey as a reserve, while Paisami is named at Outside Centre in place of Feauai-Sautia, as Petaia moves to a Wing.  Ruan Smith makes his way onto the bench for the Reds, while Jack Hardy will fill the role of reserve outside Back in some rare action for him this season.

These sides have already met twice in this competition, with the Brumbies taking a thriller 22-20 in the first match, at this venue, in a fairly convincing 3-tries-to-2 score, hampered by Queensland kicking for goal more accurately.  Then in the return match in Brisbane just a fortnight ago the Reds clobbered the Brumbies 26-7, 3-tries-to-1, dealing the first blow in what many believed would be a prelude to the Final for some time.  The Brumbies are handicapped at -2 for this cracking encounter, at $1.67 favourites, while the Reds are surely in the market at $2.25, which is mostly about the venue, as the Brumbies hold such a strong record at GIO stadium.

PREDICTION: Reds to sneak the glory, winning by 7.

BETTING TIP: $3.10 for the Reds to win by 1-12 seems nice.
