Aston Villa vs Sheffield United – Premier League Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

The English Premier League returns on Wednesday (17th of June, 2020) as Match Day 29 gets underway with Aston Villa taking on Sheffield United at Villa Park.

This will be Aston Villa’s first game since the league was placed on temporary hold. Their last match ended in an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Leicester City. Aston Villa has lost four straight games; DWLLLL, and are 19th place on the league table. Coach, Dean Smith knows his side must pick up valuable points as the season draws to a close to escape relegation. They have earned 25 points from 28 Premier League games and have 7W, 4D and 17L so far this season. Aston Villa have scored 34 goals and conceded 56, leaving them with a GD of -22. Smith should retain the 4-1-4-1 formation which he has adopted for the better part of the season although a 4-2-3-1 is also rumoured. Talismanic skipper Jack Grealish who has 7 goals and 6 assists will be crucial while winger Anwar El Ghazi will be looking to add to his 4 goals and 4 assists.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United will also be playing their 29th league appearance of the season after the long break. They are currently 7th -- equal points with 6th placed Wolverhampton but behind only on goal-difference. Sheffield will be looking to restart with a win when they face Villa on Wednesday. Their last match was a 1-0 victory over Norwich; DLWWDW. Sheffield has 11W, 10D and 7L in 28 league appearances. They have conceded 25 goals but have scored 30 times which gives them a +5GD this season. Coach Chris Wilder is expected to adopt the 3-5-2 formation which has yielded some fantastic results over the course of the season. Summer signing, Lys Mousset who has 5 goals and 4 assists should lead the attack. Meanwhile, the duo of Fleck and Lundstram are expected to contribute to Villa’s attacking efforts. Together, they have 9 goals and 4 assists.

The first leg back in December saw Sheffield defeat Aston Villa, 2-0. Previously, they played in February, 2019 and it ended in a 3-3 draw. Before then, they met in September, 2018 and it ended 4-1 – a victory for Sheffield United.
