Al Sadd vs Al Ain – AFC Champions League Match Preview, Kick-Off Time & Match Prediction

Match Day 4 of Group D gets under way with Al Sadd taking on Al Ain on Friday the 18th of September, 2020, at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, in Doha, Qatar.

Al Sadd got rather surprised by Al Ain on Tuesday. Before that game, Al Ain had no point from their first two group matches. Somehow, Al Sadd went down 1-0 and 2-1, but found it in them not just to answer back both times, but even to take the lead in the 60th minute. Right when it felt they were finally on their way to earning all three points, Boualem Khoukhi scored an own-goal, which was really not his fault, as another teammate had headed the ball first. At the end of the day, that 3-3 wasn’t the worst that could have happened to Al Sadd, as it kept Al Ain four points behind them. Important detail, Sepahan lost their game, so now Al Sadd are second in the group, two points ahead of third-placed Sepahan. Their current form reads; DWWWD. Coach Xavi Hernandez played some sort of a 4-1-4-1 formation, with Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah up front. He scored Al Sadd’s third goal. Right before that, Santi Cazorla had equalized 2-2.

Al Ain looked much better than expected on Tuesday, but at the end of the match, that 3-3 felt… too little, as it kept them at the bottom of the group table. On just one point from three matches, it is a must for them to… try their luck again against Al Sadd. They need a win, draws are simply not enough for them at this point. Their current form reads; DLWWW. Coach Pedro Emanuel played a 4-4-1-1 formation on Tuesday, with Togolese striker Kodjo Fo Doh Laba up front, and Kazakh attacking midfielder Bauyrzhan Islamkhan sort of behind him. Both scored. As previously mentioned, Al Ain’s third goal was a… gift from two Al Sadd players.

Tuesday’s game was just the second ever between these two teams; back in 2003, Al Ain had beaten Al Sadd 2-0 in the AFC CL group stage. Back then, teams didn’t play against each other twice in a group, both at home and away, but only once.

Xavi and his players should look better prepared this time, and not allow Al Ain to surprise them again.

A 2-1 victory for Al Sadd is predicted at full-time.
